Marldon Local History Group formally came into being on 11th September 2001, and had a formal Constitution, a Committee and the usual Officers. The Group found that there was a great interest in the Parish about the history of the Parish, especially in the comparatively recent social history with which the older members of the community could relate and identify.
Sadly over the years, group membership has dwindled and along with the lack of volunteers to join the Committee the decision was made in 2024 to put the Group into mothballs, in the hope that at a future date more volunteers would come forward to kick-start the Group once again.
In addition to its own archive of material, the Group holds copies of the Parish Church records of births, marriages and deaths dating back to 1598 and these are all safely stored in the History Group Archive Room underneath the Village Hall.
A skeleton team still remain in position to keep the Group website updated and make available the Archive Room should anyone wish to access any material held.
