Marldon Bowls Club has a thriving Shortmat Section which meets each Wednesday in the Winter months in the Village Hall. The sessions are well attended and provide friendly yet competitive shortmat bowling for Members of Marldon Bowling Club. The game is a good introduction to the longer outdoor version but is a complete sport in itself.
There are leagues within Torbay and the Club has two teams, the Moles and the Magpies, which play competitively against other local clubs. The game is played on a mat and most of the rules are similar to the longer version of the game. The main difference is the Block which is placed half way and centrally on the rink and the bowl must not touch this on its travel up the rink.
